7th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment.
April 1916

This photo was kindly donated to our project by Terry Richardson the  grandson of John Richardson who is standing on the right side as you look at the picture.

we know that John Richardson enlisted in 1914 along side Arthur James Oakes , Henry (Harry) Clunn and John Warham . All of these men  are commemorated on the Basra Memorial  Iraq.

They fought in the Mesopotamia theatre of war from the 12th February 1916 in April 1916 on the 5th John Richardson was presumed dead and on the 9th April Arthur Oakes, John Warham and Harry Clunn were declared killed in action.

We are currently working on the biographies of these men and will post them as they are completed. However this picture we feel is important as perhaps all the aforementioned soldiers are in this photo , sadly there was no clue written on the back as is often the case with old family photos

We know these men worked together at Royal Doulton before the war , they enlisted into the same battalion and  fought and died together in April 1916 .

What we would love to know is if anyone can identify a relative from this photo and get in touch with us.
