A lasting legacy
The Roll of Honour commemorates the men and women connected to Royal Doulton who gave their lives in service to their country. It records the fallen of the wider Doulton sites in the First World War, and the thirteen men and one woman from the Nile Street works in Burslem who were lost in the Second World War.
Each entry reflects an individual story — their role, their service, and the circumstances of their sacrifice. Together, these accounts remind us of the human cost of conflict and the enduring importance of remembrance.

Doulton & Co LTD Lambeth
Today, Southbank House on Black Prince Road, Lambeth, London, is the only building to survive from the original Royal Doulton site. Lambeth was the original head office for Royal Doulton. It was Grade II listed by Historic England in 1974, so remains a protected survivor of Lambeth’s former pottery industry. Built between 1876-78, the existing Southbank House stands tall at five storeys, including a basement and attic, with an elegant combination of red brick with pink and beige terracotta detailing.
The Government brought in clean air regulations in the 1950s, closing the factory for good with Doulton & Co moving production to The Potteries in Staffordshire.
The HQ of Doulton & Co remained in Lambeth until 1971, when it moved up north to Staffordshire. The Art Deco building on the Embankment pictured below was demolished in 1978.
Among the now-demolished buildings were a 233ft high Italianate chimney stack, a showroom and factories containing four or five kilns, boiler rooms and an engine house.

Royal Doulton Burlsem
In 1901, King Edward VII awarded the Burslem factory the Royal Warrant, allowing that part of the business to adopt new markings and a new name, Royal Doulton. The bathroom ceramics and other utilitarian wares remained branded Doulton and Co.

Originally erected at the Doulton & Co Ltd factory on Hawkhead Road, the memorial was a tribute to the workers of Doulton Paisley. It is currently being renovated and will be situated in Paisley Abbey.
